Hassan "Gos" Spall won the North Brunswick tournament, and Astro won the Fullerton tournament.
Astro won all three of his games in the group stage and then went 3-0 in the playoffs of the eight-team tournament. Gos had a much larger field of players to contend with, coming out on top of a 25-player tournament. He lost one game in the group stage and then went 4-0 in the playoffs.
Both players told Nerd Street they put a priority on their offense.
“If you like watching a high-paced Madden, watching a lot of offense, exciting plays and stuff, then you should root for me,” Astro said.
“My playstyle is just play good, solid offense, put a lot of pressure on the defense, and on defense just play like a maniac, play a little crazy and just trust my adjustments,” Gos said.
The Brunswick win meant a lot to Gos.
“Being the Madden North Brunswick winner is special to me,” Gos said. “It’s my hometown. I grew up here -- I went to high school at North Brunswick High.”
Both Astro and Gos have a history of good results at the highest levels of competitive Madden. Gos won the Madden 18 NFL Club Championship, and Astro was a semifinalist at the 2022 Madden Bowl earlier this year where he lost to eventual champion Henry.
The next Nerd Street Champs tournament is set to take place online this weekend. The Madden Summer Championship is scheduled to take place later this summer in Philadelphia.
