The best recent events and tournaments at Localhost

Nerd Street’s owned and operated gaming venues, known as Localhosts, are not only places where you can stop by to play your favorite games on high-quality gaming PCs and consoles. Localhosts also are the site of LAN tournaments, gaming community gatherings, private events, youth camps, brand activations and more. Every month, we’ll be spotlighting some of the best events that have happened at Localhost in Philadelphia, Rowan and Denver. Here’s a look back at some of the fun things that happened at Localhost over the past month.

Lakewood League

Localhost Denver closed out September with another big League of Legends tournament. The sixth edition of Lakewood League featured a huge turnout of 21 teams with “Students of the Game” picking up the win and some additional prizing chipped in by Riot Games! The Lakewood League tournaments have been getting bigger and bigger throughout the year with the Governor of Colorado Jared Polis even dropping by for a previous event. Localhost League aficionados will be gathering monthly going forward on the last Saturday of every month with a scrims night coming later this month and another tournament in the works for November.

PHL Gaming

In mid-September, Localhost Philly hosted the second annual PHL Gaming festival spearheaded by Councilman Isaiah Thomas in conjunction with JumpButton Studios and the Greater Philadelphia indie game developer community. The sold-out event featured panels from gaming industry leaders in Philadelphia, Smash Ultimate and College Football 25 tournaments operated by Cxmmunity, and a full indie game showcase featuring all the developers and studios attending the event.

Blerd Bash

Localhost Philly closed out the month with the third edition of H.A.G. Entertainment's Blerd Bash event. Blerd Bash is a festival dedicated to highlighting the talents of Black and African-American creators in the nerd/geek space. The event was a celebration of gaming and anime fandom and included a cosplay contest, vendors, open play gaming, a Tekken 8 tournament, and a cosplay dance party featuring a live DJ set.

School’s in session at Rowan

An esports class has been meeting at Localhost Rowan this fall. About 10-15 students have been attending Foundation of Esports at Localhost. Additionally, Localhost has been welcoming various club meetings at the venue, including the Rowan Esports Club and the Rowan FGC Club.

Quick hits

Localhost Philly hosted Team Nouns' Dota 2 roster for a few days as they played some matches to qualify for BetBoom Dacha Belgrade. Congrats to the team who will be traveling to Serbia later in October to compete against some of the best teams from around the world!

The fifth edition of Broad Street Blur, a Mario Kart 8 LAN, took place in Philly last month. The Mario Kart team from Kutztown University esports dropped by to compete, and their player Jonathan "Technical" Liveli took second place.

Localhost welcomed the Womens+ community at Rowan for a night of gaming last month. The event provided a safe space for players who identify as women to enjoy a night of free gaming at Localhost.

Break Through: Overdrive brought together the Smash and FGC communities of South Jersey. Localhost Rowan hosted 56 attendees who competed in games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Tekken 8, Street Fighter 6 and Guilty Gear Strive.

Fragadelphia was back in the house for their second tournament at Localhost Rowan. Nine teams competed for the second of three planned Frags this fall at Rowan.

In addition to League of Legends, Localhost Denver showcased another Riot Games title last month with the venue’s first official TFT tournament. Denver also hosted its first board game night which saw a big gathering come out to play a wide variety of games from across the board gaming spectrum.
