The best recent events and tournaments at Localhost

Nerd Street’s owned and operated gaming venues, known as Localhosts, are not only places where you can stop by to play your favorite games on high-quality gaming PCs and consoles. Localhosts also are the site of LAN tournaments, private events, camps, activations, watch parties and more. Every month, we’ll be spotlighting some of the best events that have happened at Localhosts around the country, from Philadelphia to Fullerton and everywhere in between. Here’s a look back at some of the fun things that happened at Localhost over the past month.

Speed Gaming in Philly

Love was in the air on Valentine’s Day, as Localhost again partnered with Philly influencers at Wooder Ice for a night of gaming and making connections. Speed Gaming was a video game-themed take on speed dating, bringing together 101 people looking to find love and friendship. There was plenty of pizza, board games and beverages alongside Mario Kart duo challenges and PC free play going on all night.

Call of Duty takeover in Denver

One of the biggest Tier 2/Tier 3 Call of Duty tournaments in the country took place in Denver last weekend. Organized by the Call of Duty Premier Circuit, the three-day, 32-team tournament happened at a packed venue and was won by Screamin Demons, a team that calls Localhost in Denver home. This was the first of three planned LAN tournaments by the newly created Premier Circuit.

Go For Broke goes big

Localhost Philly’s largest Go For Broke event ever took place in mid-February. With over 150 attendees and 139 tournament entrants, the Go For Broke 2024 Edition was the first regional-scale FGC event of the year in Philly. The tournament featured seven games including Street Fighter 6 and Guilty Gear Strive in the lineup and a $700 pot bonus for Tekken 8. In addition to local competitors from around the Pennsylvania/New Jersey/Delaware area, players from other Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states and even as far out as Florida dropped by! The next Go For Broke is already scheduled for April 20.

Drexel’s Overwatch Bash

Early in February, Localhost Philly saw the return of Drexel University as they hosted their Overwatch Bash, with players from their own esports team as well as community members participating in a draft style double elimination tournament. Players from the winning team all received Overwatch credits as their prize as well as an OW Bash trophy provided by Drexel University Esports.

Quick hits

Iron Phist Philly held the second edition of The Phurnace last month. With a new name but the same great experience, IPP continues to run their double elimination Tekken 8 tournament series. Also in Philly, Brotherly Love Esports partnered with Localhost to begin running their new Smash Melee biweekly, "Fly, Melee Fly."

Across the country in Fullerton, 55 attendees showed up for the fifth edition of SoCallie. The two-day Splatoon event featured pools and a redemption bracket on Day 1, and the top eight played out on Day 2. Triggerfish Zones Supremacy won again as they have dominated the Splatoon LAN tournament series.

In Denver, the Localhost team was at Jeffcon to run a 68-kid Mario Kart bracket for the Jefferson County Public Schools event. This was Localhost’s second year activating at that event, which is a wonderful way to teach kids about potential careers in tech!

At the end of February, Cartesi booked out Localhost Denver to host a group of Web3 developers to show off their new games. Attendance was strong for Localhost Denver’s first Web3 event.
